Monday 1/5/09

Happy New Year! So we begin our week with a two hour delay, and a quick change of plans led us to an introduction of Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. We discussed the context of the novel in history, and the social issues that relate to the novel. We also discussed the concepts of Universal Truths, and the idea of equality and justice. If you missed class today, please see Mrs. Katz about making up the paragraph we wrote in class.

Tuesday 1/6/09
Today we further explored the historical context of the novel through a photo project in class. Thanks to Mr. Masson's awesome historical photographs, we were able to analyze the photos and explore the social crises of the fifties and sixties. Homework for tonight was to read chapter 1 for homework.

Wednesday 1/7/09
Happy snow day!

Thursday 1/8/09
After yet another two hour delay, we discovered that most students forgot their homework assignment. Class time was spent reviewing chapter one and characterizing the main characters in the novel. Homework for tonight is to re-read Chapter 1 and read Chapter 2 for a quick quiz on Friday.

Friday 1/9/09
Today we took a very quick quiz and apparently people are not reading. For those students who missed class due to the two-hour delay, make-up quizzes are available. Please be sure to keep up with the readings because quick quizzes will be a regular occurence. We also finally began Novel Cube presentations today. We will continue with the presentations on Monday. Please be prepared to present. Homework for the weekend is to read chapter 3. Have a great weekend!
